A WEEKEND ROCK ‘N ROLL RIDGE FARM WEDDING
If you’re dreaming of a weekend wedding with major rock’n’roll credentials, it doesn’t get better than Ridge Farm. Tucked into the Surrey countryside, this place isn’t just a beautiful venue – it’s a legendary former recording studio where some of the biggest names in music history laid down tracks. For couples like Andrew and Alison, who both work in the creative industries, it offered the perfect blend of laid-back, lush surroundings and genuine soul.
They held their ceremony in the woodland – Ridge Farm has a stunning ceremony glade – with personal touches threaded throughout. Andrew’s niece sang during the ceremony, and as the couple were pronounced married, guests were met with a surprise: a live Mariachi band playing Just Like Heaven by The Cure. It was the most joyful, unexpected moment – and so perfectly them. The band led the procession from the woodland to the reception space, turning a walk through the trees into a party in motion.
As the groom is a journalist at NME, let’s talk about Ridge Farm’s unique history.
This venue has history – and I don’t just mean the gorgeous 15th-century farmhouse you get to stay in for the weekend. Ridge Farm was once one of the UK’s most sought-after residential recording studios. Queen, Roxy Music, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, Oasis, and even The Spice Girls have recorded here. So when you book your wedding here, you’re stepping into a slice of musical history.
But even if you’re not a die-hard music fan, Ridge Farm delivers on every level. You get exclusive use of the property for the whole weekend, which means no one else is coming in or out. It’s your place, your people, your party. There’s a pool, a tennis court, a huge garden, and indoor spaces that feel more like a luxury countryside Airbnb than a standard wedding venue. The farmhouse sleeps over 20 guests – which means the core of your wedding party can stay on site with you all weekend.
I’ve actually stayed at Ridge Farm multiple times while running retreats for Photography Farm – and I can tell you it’s an incredible place to wake up in, shoot in, and celebrate in. You really do feel at home there.

“We wanted our wedding to feel like us – relaxed, joyful, and full of character. Lisa captured it all with such ease and creativity – we felt completely ourselves and love how every photo reflects how happy we were. The whole day just felt like one big exhale. “ Alison + Andrew

FAQs – for planning a Ridge Farm Wedding
1. Where is Ridge Farm?
The location is fairly rural. It’s close to Capel, on the Surrey/Sussex border – not far from Dorking or Horsham. It is 20 minutes to Gatwick Airport and under 90 minutes from London.
2. What’s the capacity?
The venue is perfect for mid-size weddings – up to 150 guests outside in a marquee or around 100 seated inside the pool house. There is accommodation in the house for up to 25 people, including a separate cottage.
3. Can we have an outdoor ceremony?
Yes! There’s a magical woodland glade with seating on-site that’s popular for ceremonies. You’ll need to do the legal part separately, but many couples treat the woodland ceremony as the main event.
4. Can we bring in our own suppliers?
Absolutely. Ridge Farm is a dry hire venue, so you have full flexibility to bring in your own caterers, florists, bar team, furniture, and more. They are happy to help with recommendations.
5. Do we get exclusive use of the venue?
Yes. You hire the entire site for the weekend – Friday to Sunday (or longer if you like). That includes the farmhouse, the gardens, and all the facilities.
6. Is there a curfew?
Yes, like many countryside venues, Ridge Farm has a sound curfew for amplified music. But the vibe never has to stop – think acoustic sessions, bonfires, late-night kitchen hangs…
7. What is the cost for a Ridge Farm wedding?
Potentially £16,500+ for a full weekend wedding experience, but you must contact them for precise, tailored quotes as prices fluctuate by season and requirements.
