Wedding At The Asylum In London

Wedding at The Asylum In London with a pink haired bride and her groom surrounded by candles.

Wedding at The Asylum in London with a Film Camera-Obsessed Bride

These two met at sword fighting classes and told me they were “going for a fairly relaxed wedding, not too traditional, something of a pink hair, black dress, leather jackets kind of affair… Both of us are far more comfortable behind a camera than in front of one”

This happens a fair amount, I book weddings for couples that are really into photography themselves and want to have some film photography at their wedding. This is something I am more than happy to accommodate as my heart always belongs to film.

The first decade of my career was all film and whilst I love the convenience of digital photography, I also love the slower approach of film photography and the nostalgic quality it has.

This wedding was photographed with the Hasselblad X1DII and Sony A7III and the Lensfayre Snap. The bride also took images on her Rollei medium format film camera.

We Can’t Stop Looking At Them!

Wow! These are amazing! Thank you so much.

We really appreciate that you got such lovely photos of our guests and the details of the wedding too.

We will enjoy looking at these for a long long time to come!

What’s The History Of The Asylum in London?

Emma and Dave chose The Asylum in London as their wedding venue for its Victorian Gothic, derelict church vibes. It wasn’t built as a church though, it was originally a home for retired pub landlords and the ‘asylum’ part is because it was a sanctuary for them in times before the welfare system. It was bombed in the Second World War, and it is now a great big empty space with many of the original features visible including the stained glass windows. It’s a beautiful wedding venue and it perfectly suited this bride and groom.

ANALOGUE WEDDING PHOTOS ON 120 AND 35MM

It was important to Lauren in particular to have some retro-feeling film photos from her wedding day as she is really into photography herself. I love how they give everything a different dimension and evoke a feeling of nostalgia. I ended up bringing four cameras to this wedding but I love the end results from the analog cameras. If you are interested in having a similar vibe with your wedding photos, (I do love a London Wedding) drop me a note in the enquiry form.
